Meet Summer

Hello! I’m Summer Krause (she/her), a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oregon, a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor III, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I work with teens and adults ages 13 and older through telehealth.

I specialize in the places where trauma, stress, and unsafe ways of coping intersect. When life has felt overwhelming, substances, self-harm, isolation, changes in eating, or other behaviors may have helped you get through a difficult moment. I offer a compassionate space to understand what those strategies have done for you and build safer ways to cope.

You Might Be a Good Fit If...

You’re looking for support that takes both trauma and coping seriously, without judgment. You may be:

  • Living with the effects of trauma, PTSD, anxiety, or ongoing stress.

  • Using substances or other behaviors to get through painful moments.

  • Working to reduce self-harm or find safer ways to cope.

  • Navigating concerns related to spirituality or religion.

  • Interested in a group that focuses on practical skills and connection with others.

  • Looking for EMDR while continuing to work with your primary therapist at PSC.

How I Work

Feeling safe, respected, and understood matters. I welcome your questions and feedback, and I’ll work with you in a way that fits your values and reasons for seeking therapy. Together, we can make sense of what you’ve been carrying and develop a path toward healing that feels useful to you.

I facilitate Seeking Safety groups for adolescents and adults. Seeking Safety focuses on building coping skills in the present. You do not need to share detailed trauma stories in group, and you do not need to be abstinent from substances to participate, though you do need to attend without being under the influence.

I also offer individual EMDR to a limited number of clients who have a primary therapist at PSC. EMDR involves working with trauma memories, so we’ll consider together whether that approach is appropriate for you.

My Approach

My work draws on trauma-specific treatments, Motivational Interviewing, and person-centered therapy. I tailor our work to your needs and goals, with particular attention to the connection between trauma and addiction or other unsafe coping behaviors.

I am also a trainer in the Seeking Safety model and provide training and consultation to organizations internationally. I wrote the Seeking Safety Adolescent Toolkit and co-authored the Christian Faith-Based Guide to Seeking Safety.
