Group Therapy
Supporting Caretakers of those with Neurocognitive Disorders
The role of a caretaker can be highly stressful if also rewarding, and even more so when providing care to a loved one with a neurocognitive disorder. This group will support clients in gaining insight into how their role as a caretaker interacts with other parts of their lives to impact their mental health. Additionally, clients can learn from each other to gain insight into strategies for more effectively managing emotions and navigating the relationships in their lives.
This is a hybrid therapy and support group for individuals who provide care for a loved one who has been diagnosed with dementia, Alzheimer's, or another similar disorder. This group will function as a traditional therapy group, as the group facilitator will utilize active interventions to support clients navigating emotions and present moment reactions in the group. Additionally, clients will support each other by relaying their own experiences as caretakers and providing information they have found useful.
The focus of the group will be on boundary setting, interpersonal communication, emotion processing, and navigating roles as a caretaker.
