Jen Roden, MHCA

Mental Health Counselor Associate | Professional Counselor Associate

Hello! My name is Jenn Roden (she/her), and I am a Professional Counselor Associate (PCA) in the state of Oregon and Mental Health Counselor Associate (MHCA) in the state of Washington. I see individuals ages 18+ for both in person and virtual sessions.

Are you a good clinical fit?

I recognize that life is hard, and that stress and trauma are held in the body in numerous ways, which can lead to adaptive behaviors that may no longer be effective and/or are harmful to ourselves or others. Are you someone who wants to understand why they do what they do? Do you want to explore and express hidden parts of yourself?

My aim as a therapist is to increase my client's toolbox for coping strategies, while also providing a safe space to address attachment wounds and trauma. I take a non-judgmental and non-pathologizing approach to mental health care.

My Approach

I take a person-centered, compassionate and nonjudgmental approach to mental health care, with an emphasis in Person Centered Therapy and Interpersonal Neurobiology. What this means is that I believe that healing and growth can occur in the context of a safe, authentic, and connected relationship. I seek to create a therapeutic space in which the client experiences the felt sense of a compassionate, non-judgmental, and curious connection. My practice is also informed by Internal Family Systems and Parts Work. I believe that we, as humans, develop many different parts of ourselves that become proficient in protecting the self. This may look like self harm, over or under-eating, substance use, or frequent and patterned relationship issues. I believe that while these behaviors can cause short term and long term consequences, they also have the positive intention of protecting you in some way. Together, we will explore these parts to determine what they are trying to do for you, not with the intention of getting rid of them, but rather to find a way their needs can be met in a way that doesn't result in functional difficulties.

I offer a trauma-informed approach, rooted in understanding how life experiences impact the brain and the developing system. I integrate many different therapeutic approaches including relational, neuroscience, Internal Family Systems (informed), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (informed) and Person Centered Therapy. Sessions may include parts exploration, building coping skills, exploring your world through sand tray therapy, and building relational rapport.

I look forward to working with you!
